Clear data for everyone who travels, lives, and works in the Mexican Caribbean.

Transparent information for an industry in bloom

Here, sargassum stops being a surprise and becomes a collective opportunity.

The Observatorio Ciudadano del Sargazo (OCDS) is the meeting point where we all observe the same information to decide and act with data.

With Data, Everyone Wins

Book without surprises, enjoy with confidence

Check your hotel or beach, see the sargassum in real images, and decide before you book.

  2. For Hotels

    Precise planning, happier guests

Schedule staff and resources with real data. Act in time and respond with evidence.

  3. For Cleanup Crews

    Turn data into contracts

Identify critical zones, allocate resources precisely, and close contracts with certainty.

  4. For Travel Agencies

Offer the best, clients who come back

Send tourists to hotels you know will be in good state. Fewer complaints, more referrals.

  5. For Local Residents

Be part of the network that keeps the data honest.

  6. For the Press

    Journalism with evidence

Your reporting starts from data that is solid, constant, and reliable.

The data that protects your vacation from sargassum

Data we all build together.

Behind the OCDS is a system we all build together. We combine satellite detection, human review and your experience on the beach to give you the most complete and honest analysis of sargassum monitoring.

Data that gets sharper every loop

The satellite detects.

Every 5 days, Sentinel-2 scans the Caribbean. Our algorithm spots the sargassum, but the machine doesn’t decide alone: it needs a second opinion.

A human confirms it.

Nothing is published blindly. We review every mark to rule out clouds, shadows or boats. If it isn’t sargassum, it doesn’t pass.

You decide and validate.

The last word is yours. If you’re on the beach and the map doesn’t match, you upload your photo. We cross-check your report against more evidence to confirm and update the data.

We learn and we win.

Every data point helps tune and improve the algorithm. The more we take part, the sharper the map gets for everyone.

Honest sargassum data helps everyone

An accurate map transforms everyone’s experience: from the tourist who books with peace of mind to the hotelier and the local who care for their coast. The Observatorio Ciudadano del Sargazo exists to keep this information free, transparent and easy to use.
